If you’ve had the opportunity to swim in our pool in the last month, you may have noticed some discoloration on the pool walls and floor. Have no fear, it’s safe to swim — but the building is taking steps to resurface the tarnished area.
No, it’s not mold — it’s “Diamond Bright.” Or more specifically — a lack of it.
Our pool is lined with a special commerical product called Diamond Brite which is composed of colored quartz aggregates and a special type of Portland Cement. It’s designed to have greater resistance to pool chemicals as well as reducing pool maintenance. The dark spot is where the Diamond Brite has worn away — and the board is getting bids to have a new coat of Diamond Brite applied. After the pool has been drained, a contractor will grind the area where the blemish exists to create a smooth finish. The pool will then pressure washed and a new coat of Diamond Brite will be applied.
This work will require the pool to be shut down for several days while it is drained, repairs are made, and the Diamond Brite is applied and allowed to dry. Then the pool will be refilled.
When will this happen? Stay tuned for updates. We are now getting bids for this work but hope to pick a contractor and start work in the next few weeks.
